Russia has alleged that the Ukrainian military used “methodical attacks” to target the Kakhovka Hydroelectric plant. Russia says that Ukrainians launched 28 HIMARS strikes at the dam, eventually causing its collapse. Moscow published a list of “more than 300” HIMARS missiles Ukraine allegedly fired at the dam between July and November 2022. The Russian Foreign Ministry cited a Kyiv official’s interview to Washington Post, where he described the HIMARS strike on the dam. Russia’s Maria Zakharova cited an interview Major General Andriy Kovalchuk gave to The Washington Post in December 2022. Kovalchuk had said the strike on one of the floodgates aimed to raise the river’s waters enough to “stymie Russian crossings”. Ukraine has said that Russia is moving its combat-ready troops from Kherson after blowing up the Kakhovka dam. Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defence Hanna Maliar said the move makes it obvious that Russia was behind the explosion. Watch this video to know more.
